Dantzler (Denzler)

1. HANS ULRICH DENZLER was baptized 3 Aug 1704 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1]. He was the son of HEINRICH DENZLER and BARBARA BRUNGGER[1]. He married MARGRETH FRAUENFELDER, 6 Apr 1728 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1]. She was baptized 22 Apr 1708 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1].

Hans Ulrich Denzler was the brother of Conrad Denzler[1] who migrated with his family to Savannah, Georgia, arriving 20 Dec 1737[7,8].

On 23 Dec 1749, Hans Ulrich Denzler sold his land in Switzerland to his brother, Heinrich Denzler; the deed was registered at the castle at Kyburg on 16 Jan 1750. The transaction listed a number of properties[2].

Hans Ulrich Tantzler received a warrant for 400 acres of land near Saxe Gotha on 29 Aug 1750, but on 4 Jun 1751 petitioned that it be laid out near Four Hole Swamp instead (petition dated 7 May 1751)[3,4]. The 400 acres was granted to Hans Ulrich Tentzler on 6 Nov 1752[5]. The land was located about 2 ½ miles south-east of what is now the center of Cameron, South Carolina, about Jericho Road where it leaves US 176 in present day Calhoun County[7].

Children of Hans Ulrich Denzler and Margaret Frauenfelder are:

a. HANS ULRICH DENZLER, bapt 30 Jan 1729 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and died 1782 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. He married (1)Margaret ____ and (2)Mary ____[7].

Hans Ulrich Tentzler, Juni'r received a warrant for 100 acres of land near Saxe Gotha on 29 Aug 1750, but on 2 July 1751 petitioned that it be laid out near Four Hole Swamp instead (petition dated 7 May 1751)[4]. The 100 acres was granted on 6 Nov 1752[6].

b. HANS HEINRICH DENZLER, bapt 26 Nov 1730 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. He married Anna Barbara ____ bef. 3 Jun 1750[7].

c. HEINRICH DENZLER, bapt 3 Dec 1732 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. He married Apollonia ____ abt. 1757[7].

d. OTHMAR DENZLER, bapt 29 Oct 1734 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.

e. (unnamed son) DENZLER, died 6 Jun 1735 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1]

f. HANS DENZLER, bapt 13 Sep 1736 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1], died 3 Dec 1736 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1].

g. (unnamed daughter) DENZLER, died 18 Sep 1737 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland, aged 21 hours[1]

h. ELISABETHA DENZLER, bapt 27 Apr 1738 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.

i. HANS DENZLER, bapt 6 Sep 1739 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.

j. BARBARA DENZLER, bapt 30 Mar 1741 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1], died 26 Dec 1741 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1].

h. BARBARA DENZLER, bapt 2 Sep 1742 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.

l. HANS JACOB DENZLER, bapt 20 Jun 1745 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and died abt. 1790 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Barbara Kern (Carn) on 3 Oct 1771[7,8]. She was born 17 Feb 1756 and bapt. 21 Mar 1756 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina[9,10]. She died 27 Aug 1824 in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina[7].

m. MARGRETH DENZLER, bapt 30 Apr 1747 in First, Illnau, ZU, Switzerland[1] and probably died in Orangeburgh District, South Carolina.

Author's Note: For those readers familiar with the Dantzler Genealogy published in 1899 by Rev. D. D. Dantzler[11], we now believe that the "Harry" Dantzler shown in that work was actually Hans Ulrich Denzler (Sr.), that the descendants shown for "Henry" Dantzler were actually those of John Henry (Hans Heinrich), and that the descendants shown for "Daniel" Dantzler were actually those of Henry (Heinrich).
