Hoover (Huber)

The Hans Huber Family

First Generation

     1. Hans Huber was born in June 1683 in Seeberg in the canton of Bern, Switzerland to Johannes and Elizabeth (Staüthi) Huber. He was baptized at the church in Seeberg on June 24, 1683.1 Hans died after 1757 in Orangeburgh Township, South Carolina.2 He was married three times. His first wife was Elizabetha Clauß who lived from 1684 to 1722. The second marriage for Hans was to Anna Barbara Gantert (1688 to 1730). The third wife of Hans was Susanna Kreuter (1695 to 1757).3

Hans married his first wife, Elizabeth, in Seeberg on January 27, 1708.4 They had at least two children born and baptized there before the family moved to Einöd in the Zweibrücken District of what later became Germany. Hans and Elizabeth had several more children before Elizabeth died on December 10, 1722.5

Hans married Anna Barbara Gantert on August 13, 1723, in Einöd.6 They had two children, born in 1724 and 1726, but both of the children died in August 1728.7 Anna Barbara died in childbirth on September 16, 1730.8

Hans married for the third time on January 16, 1731, in Einöd to Susanna Kreuter.9 They had four children, two of whom died before the Huber family left for South Carolina in 1735.10

Hans and his family arrived in Charleston in July 1735 with the large group of immigrants who moved to Orangeburgh Township to settle there.11 He had a plat for 300 acres certified on October 11, 1735, in the township.12 He received the grant for it on September 17, 1736.13

Hans was still living in November 1757 when his third wife was buried.14 Quit Rent payments were made on his 300 acres through at least 1768 but with no indication of who was paying them.15 No records have been found that might indicate when Hans died.
