Research Notes

a. The card catalog of St. Michael's Church in Homburg Germany mentions a Jean Henry Schnel, born 12 Sep 1691 in Kirkel (a village about 4 miles southwest of Homburg) to Gregorie Schnel and Marie Aignel but there is nothing to show that this is our Heinrich Schnell.76

b. These records have been microfilmed but the copy quality for this time period is very bad. The cited records are identifiable by form in the microfilm but are illegible.77

c. Juliana is an unusual name in early Orangeburgh. The referenced Juliana Schrader, in the right place at the right time, is the only Juliana found besides the wife of Henry Snell, Jr.

d. On 27 Dec John Ragin applied to the court of Camden District to be administrator of the goods and chattel of John Felder as next of kin, being the husband of John Felder's widow.

e. Charleston was under British control from 12 May 1780 to 14 Dec 1782.

f. The Book of Record states: "624} On Thursday April 17th In John & Ulrick Oths Fort Elizabeth, Daughter of Ulrick & Barbara Oth; ‑ born April 9th 1760"78
