Migration of Samuel BOOKMAN(Sr) and Jemima RAINEY

1. Samuel BOOKMAN(Sr), born 25 Dec 1766 in Richland County, South Carolina; died 15 Sep 1838 in Richland County, South Carolina, son of William Jacob BACHMAN and Anna [unknown]. He married abt 1797 in South Carolina Jemima RAINEY, born abt 1782 in Virginia; died abt 1856 in Shiro, Grimes County, Texas.

Notes for Samuel BOOKMAN(Sr): Samuel Bookman, Sr. inherited land from his grandfather, John Jacob Bachman and his father William Jacob Bachman that they were granted in 1749 and 1774. He bought 1831/2 acres fron Daniel Murff (Murphy) of Fairfield District on 21 Feb. 1814. Tombstone reads died 15 September 1837. However, it was recorded by Rev. Godfrey Dreher (pg.160) that he preached the funeral of Samuel Bookman, Sr. on September 15, 1838. One of the first War dens of the first Bethlehem Lutheran Church (known as the Ellisor Church). The second Bethlehem Lutheran Church was called Bookman Church because the church was on land of Samuel and Jemima Rainey Bookman . The Journal of Rev. Godfrey Dreher states: "Preached at the new Bookman Church on the Broad River, June 6th, 1819." A deed to the congregation for this new church was made on June 7, 1875. On April 18, 1825 Samuel Bookman Sr. wrote a letter stating that he intended the land he owned in Fairfield District to be given equally to two of his sons, John B. and Jacob Oscar Bookman. When John B. Bookman died in 1824, the land that he would have inherited went to Jacob Oscar Bookman. Jacob Oscar Bookman had to give land of equal value elsewhere to the heirs of John B. Bookman.

Notes for Jemima RAINEY: In 1845 or 46, after the death of her husband Samuel Bookman, Sr., Jemima (Junema) Bookman along with three of her sons Daniel E. Bookman, Joseph C. Bookman and Jesse Bookman migrated to Texas. Also, Samuel Ike Bookman, son of John B. Bookman migrated later with Jemima's daughter Anna Barbara Bookman - Bauknight - Lown.

a. John B. BOOKMAN, born 1798 in Richland County, South Carolina; died Apr 1824 in Fairfield District, South Carolina. He married on 12 Jun 1821 in South Carolina Mary Magdaline SISTRUNK, born 1802 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 1853 in Fairfield District, South Carolina, daughter of Gasper SISTRUNK and Marian Leitner [unknown].

Notes for John B. BOOKMAN: Brother Jacob Oscar Bookman named admistr of estate on 19 April 1824 . He was a carpenter and blacksmith. Final settlement took place on 8 Dec 1832.

b. Jacob Oscar BOOKMAN, born 1800 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 1883 in Fairfield District, South Carolina. He married on 17 Aug 1834 in South Carolina Rebecca Sarah (CHAPPELL, born 1814 in South Carolina; died 1854 in Lexington, South Carolina, daughter of John S. CHAPPELL and Gracey (GOODWYN) Chappell .

c. Thomas T. BOOKMAN, born 1802 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 1855 in Lexington, South Carolina. He married Sarah [unknown]).

d. Samuel BOOKMAN(JR), born 23 Aug 1805 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 21 Aug 1806 in Lexington, South Carolina; buried in Bookman Cem., Lexington, South Carolina.

e. Anna Barbara BOOKMAN, born 9 Nov 1807 in Richland County, South Carolina; died 3 Jan 1864 in Grimes County, Texas. She married (1) on 4 Sep 1828 in Lexington County, South Carolina Daniel BOUKNIGHT; (2) on 7 May 1839 in Lexington County, South Carolina John Jacob LOWN (Jr).

f. Daniel E. BOOKMAN, born 23 Mar 1810 in Richland County, South Carolina; died 4 Aug 1896 in Grimes County, Texas. He married (1) on 7 Feb 1833 in South Carolina Sarah DERRICK, daughter of John DERRICK and Nancy MEETZE; (2) on 24 Sep 1872 in Grimes County, Texas Ann Caroline RAWLS, daughter of Thomas RALL and Barbara HARMON.

g. [unknown] BOOKMAN, born 1812 in Lexington, South Carolina; buried 19 Oct 1822 in Bookman Cem., Richland, South Carolina.

h. Joseph C. BOOKMAN, born 14 Mar 1814 in Richland County, South Carolina; died 19 Jul 1879 in Grimes County, Texas. He married on 5 Mar 1846 in Lexington County, South Carolina Amelia WEED.

i. Jesse BOOKMAN, born 24 Mar 1816 in Richland County, South Carolina; died 2 Feb 1883 in Navasota, Texas. He married on 21 Oct 1856 in Jasper, Texas Martha Lucinda ISBELL, daughter of Jabez ISBELL.

j. David BOOKMAN, born 8 Sep 1818 in Richland County, South Carolina; christened 30 Dec 1827 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 15 Jul 1868 in Lexington, South Carolina. He married on 15 Jan 1846 in South Carolina Mary Ann LORICK, born 16 Oct 1816 in Lexington, South Carolina; died 23 Jan 1884 in Lexington, South Carolina, daughter of Michael LORICK (JR) and Elizabeth A. GEIGER.

Notes for David BOOKMAN: Rev. Godfrey Dreher preached at Bethlehem (Bookman's Church) and baptized Mrs. Bookman (Jemima Rainey Bookman) and her child.
