Migration of John YAWN

1. John YAWN, born abt 1770, son of John YONN (SR). He married unknown.

Notes for John YAWN: The Yawn name in general has been found in Decatur County are since the 1820's. In the 1830 US census the following Yawns were living in Decatur County GA: John Yawn, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 50-60, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 40-50; Patrick Yawn, 1 male 20-30, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and one female 60-70; Martin Yawn, 3 males under 5, 1 male 20-30, 1 female 20-30; Isaac, 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 40-50, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-10, 2 females 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 30-40. John Yaun was their father, though no proof of their kinshp has been found to this date. Isaac Yawn (b.1824, GA) was most likely a son of the Isaac Yawn listed in this census, given that he would be about six years old and fall into the "male 5-10" range. Most descendants of Patrick Yawn remained in Decatur County, while descendants of the others settled in southeast Alabama, the Florida panhandle, and further west. In most of these families, it is common to hear stories of Yawn ancestors who married Creek Indian brides.

Children of John YAWN were as follows:

a. Isaac YAWN, born abt 1790. He married Delilah [---].

Notes for Isaac YAWN: Some early Yawn marriages in Decatur County, GA Martin Yaun and Jan Ard - Nov 17, 1825; Elizabeth Yawn and Eli Godwin Jan 17, 1828; John Yawn and Delany Bolton Dec 7, 1828; Elizabeth Yawn and Alexander Godwin Dec 7, 1828; Patrick Yawn and Leah Taylor Jun 11, 1829; Curey Yaun and Mark Porter Dec 8, 1832; Nancy Yawn and Littleton D. Glass Feb 15, 1834; Henry A. Yawn and Sarah Hawthorn May 21, 1836; Greenberry Yawn and Rutha Bishop Jul 2, 1846. Henry's father is probably Isaac because there is one Isaac in Decauter GA 1840 near Henry the right age to be his father, that is just guessing. Isaac was born about 1780-90. He was in Orangeburg, SC 1820. Decauter GA 1830-40.
