1. Charles GAVIN (JR), born 15 Jul 1775 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina; died 18 Mar 1824 in Cliftonville, Noxabee Co., Mississippi, son of Charles GAVIN and Bathiah BYRD. He married on 13 Jan 1803 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina Margaret HORGER, born 19 Apr 1785 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 19 Jul 1853 in Noxubee, Mississippi, daughter of John HORGER and Rachel SHULER.

Notes for Margaret HORGER: Charles and Margaret Gavin moved from South Carolina to Mississippi about 1817. Records of Perry County, MS Vol. 1, 1820-1830 Tax Rolls show Margaret Gavin with 160 acres and 23 slaves in 1829. The 1830 Noxubee County Census shows Margaret was in Perry County; owned property in 1848. Noxubee Co., MS 1850 census shows Margarett 66 yrs, Allen 38 yrs, Gabriel 32 yrs, Alfred 30 yrs.

b. John Edward GAVIN, born 15 Sep 1804 in South Carolina; died 28 Dec 1881 in Cliftonville, Noxabee Co., Mississippi. He married Mary Gordon DUNN, born 28 Nov 1811; died 11 Feb 1886, daughter of Sylvester DUNN. Records of Perry County, MS, Vol. 1, 1820-1820 Tax Rolls. 1825 Shows J. E. Gavin with 160 acres and 17 Slaves. 1827 Shows John E. Gavin with 160 acres and 19 Slaves. Tax Assement 1848 indicates owned property in Twp 13, Range 18 and Twp 16 Range 18 and 19. 1850 census, 46 yrs. 1860 Census shows age 47. Death Notices from Macon Beacon, Macon, MS - Mr. John Gavin, 76, Resident of Noxubee Co. for 50 years died 28 Dec 1881 at Cliftonville. Page 66- 25 May 1836 Police Board Entry, John E. Gavin added to the Macon-Pickenville Road Group, p 58 John E. Garvin same road. Page 58 Allen Garvin same road. Noxubee County, MS - Will, Noxubee County, MS. 28 October 1870. For the love and affection I have for my dear wife, Mary Gordon Gavin, I do bequeath to her $700 in gold, to be retained by my executor for her support. All the household and kitchen furniture, 4 mules to be selected by my wife, and one young bay mare called Juled. My stock of cows and hogs, the gin and mill, the present crop of corn and cotton. I wish my land to be equally divided (according to value) between all my children, to wit, George P. Gavin, Margaret E. Davy, Absolom H. Gavin, Robert L. Gavin, Chas. S. Gavin, and the two minor children of my daughter Mary G. Strode, deceased, namily Lilly G. Strode and Annie C. Strode, receiving only the potion of their mother deceased. Margaret E. Davy in addition to her portion of the land to have the piano.
Confederate Research shows a Gavin, C. S. Private Co. D, 12 Mississippi Calvary, probably the son of John Edward Gavin.
Noxubee County Mississippi Deed book "J", page 660. "Know all men by these presents that I Sylvester Dunn of Amite County for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear to my daughter Mary G. Gavin ..."

c. Absolem A. GAVIN, born 1806 in Orangeburg District, South Carolina; died 1832 in Perry County, Mississippi. Listed in Charles will of 1824; also was executor with Margaret and John E. Gavin. Absolom Gavin, Private, Co. A, 40 Mississippi Infantry. Absolom Gavin, Private, Capt. Clayton's Co., Mississippi Per Confederate Research Center, March 1993. Perry County Records: 1829 show Absolem Gavin, 1 Poll.

d. Abraham Andrew GAVIN, born 13 Oct 1810 in Spartenburg, South Carolina; died 24 Feb 1899 in Noxubee Co., Mississippi. He married Catharine C. BOLTON, born 1808; died 11 Jun 1870. He married his cousin Katie Boulton, Americus A. Sallie, and Noncie Gavin. Following children may be from A. A. and Katie: Mary Anne, Margarette. 1850 Jasper Co., MS U.S. Census (Children born MS.) Andrew 39 SC, Katherine 39 SC, George W 14, Thomas J. 12 (twin), Anne M (twin) Absalom A. 8, Margaret A. 6, Katherine 5, Clarissa 4. 1870 Clarke Co., MS U.S. Census Galvan, Abraham Andrew 60 SC, Catherine 63 SC, Ulmer, James M. 30, (all MS) Clarsey 25, Absolum 8, James 6, Leah 4, Catherine 2. A. A. Gavin enlisted 13 Mar 1862, discharged 26 May 1862, Capt. Clayton's Co., MS (Jasper Defenders). E: 18 Jan 1977 PV 3 Clarke Co., MS contains A. A. Gavin's will. I bequeath to my daughter Mrs. C. C. Ulmer (Clarissa Columbia Gavin, wife of James Madison Ulmer, born 6 Aug 1845, d. Jul 1937 in Clark Co., MS) all my real estate and personal which I now own or may own at the time of my death. Said estate is located in Clarke County. It is my intention to disinherit all my other heirs and give all my estate to the said Mrs. C. C. Ulmer for the reason that my said daughter has taken care of and provided for me during my declining years, and my other heirs are able to provide for themselves. Dated 4 April 1871 at Shubuto, Clarke County.

e. Allen GAVIN, born 7 Apr 1812 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina; died 19 Apr 1890 in Noxubee Co., Mississippi.

f. Bartlett Smith GAVIN, born 17 May 1814 in Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died 29 Apr 1893 in Choctaw County, Alabama. He married in 1837 Martha Ann MOODY, born Feb 1824; died Sep 1904 in Choctaw County, Alabama. Bartlett Smith purchased 39.87 acres of land on 28 Aug 1849. B.S. Gavin, Private, Co. D., 5 Mississippi Infantry, (State Troops) Per Confederte Research Center. According to family lore/records John Orin Gunn married an Elizabeth Ann Gavin on 3 Sep 1868 in Mississippi(?). Her parents were Bartlett Smith Gavin and Martha Ann Moody. Family lore says that Martha Ann Moody was a Cherokee indian and the Gavin side of the family was Cherokee or Choctaw.

g. Gabriel W. GAVIN, born 2 Feb 1816 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina; died 17 Sep 1887 in Noxubee Co., Mississippi. CENSUS: 1880 Listed as Farmer. Will dated 23 November 1881. To Mary V. Gavin (could be his sister Angeline Mary Gavin), bequeath my Sandy land place containing 120 acres. And, to Alfred Gavin, my brother, my Prairie plantation on which I reside containing 158 acres. Confederate Research Center, shows Gavin, G. W. no dates for Graves Registration. Gabriel never married.

h. Salley GAVIN, born 1818. Sally not listed in Charles's will in 1824, assume she died young.

i. Alfred GAVIN, born 1818 in Greene County, Mississippi; died in Noxubee Co., Mississippi.

j. Augustus GAVIN, born 17 Jul 1823 in Noxubee Co., Mississippi; died 24 Oct 1839. Twin to Angeline.

k. Angeline Mary GAVIN, born 17 Jul 1823 in Noxubee Co., Mississippi; died 22 Feb 1902. She married R.S. WELLS.
