Orangeburgh Migrations – Texas

Several families originally from the Orangeburg  District, migrated to Texas during the mid to late nineteenth century.  The earliest of these pioneers arrived after Texas achieved statehood in 1845 having lived for several years in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida before finally moving westward and settling in Texas. After the Civil War and during reconstruction, many others would arrive directly from South Carolina settling throughout the region.
